Here is a short guide to help create your first recurring email automation on Batch following the 3 steps of the automations form:
Targeting: full base or fine-tuning segmentation, through native targeting or custom data;
Timing: the lifetime and the frequency of the automation;
Email message: the content of the automation that will be sent to the user.
First, start a new Recurring email automation from the Automations tab and name it 👇
Then, let's set up your recurring email automation!
Targeting
The targeting block is where you will define the segmentation of your automation.
By default, Batch considers that you will target your entire audience. First, you can select a specific country or language.
Then, you can refine your segmentation through different options, by clicking:
'Add Conditions': from then on, you will be able to select native targeting elements (Email domain, etc.), but also profile attributes (data specific to your app business and selected thanks to the tagging plan).
💡 You can add up as many conditions as you want, and create specific scenarios by clicking on 'AND/OR'.
'Use Segment': this will allow you to call Segments as blocks in the targeting and combine Segments (inclusions and/or exclusions) by calling up to 10 segments in your targeting:
When a Segment is linked to an Orchestration, you can access/ view the segment by clicking on the eye icon.
You can also call segments in the targeting of Campaigns created by API.
'Use Audience': you can add a specific Custom Audience to your email (find how to create a Custom Audience here):
Timing
Now that we know who to send your email to, let's define when to send it!
First, set up the date and the hour of the first sending of the email campaign, and then the date of the end of it 👇
You can choose to send your email on Local time or Global time (UTC):
The Local Time option lets you send a push notification that will be received at a given time according to the user’s time zone. This ensures that marketing efforts target your users at a uniform time.
On the other hand, the Global Time (UTC) option allows you to send a push notification to your users at a specific UTC time regardless of their location.
Finally, let's define the frequency of the campaign!
Depending on your campaign goal, you can adapt the frequency of sending between days, weeks, and months.
It is also the time to set up a capping rule if you want to limit the number of times a user will receive your campaign 👇
Email message
Last but not least, let's compose your email message!
First, you need to define your header information with:
the Sender which is the email address and name that will appear as the sender of the message;
the Subject of your message;
the field Reply to (optional).
You can also create multiple versions of a message, one for each language, by clicking 'Multi-language', ensuring that profiles receive the message in their own language:
When adding a new language version, the default version will be duplicated, keeping your format options, images, and other elements intact, so you only need to edit the text that requires translation.
A default version will be sent to profiles that don’t have a message already specified in their language.
Then, there are 2 ways to create the body of your email:
Design your message with our Email Composer
Batch allows you to create an email from scratch through our Email Composer. You'll find many articles about how to use it in the Email composer part of this FAQ 👈
Upload your HTML template
If you have a template ready to be used, you can upload it here! Follow the instructions in the article How to upload my email templates? 👈
Testing the campaign
Now that your message is written and ready to captivate your readers, you can test how it looks on your device!
Use the Send test button on the email message window and type your email address 👇
The email is immediately sent!
💡 Tips:
We recommend sending tests to different email clients (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) and mailbox providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.) to make sure your message is well displayed on all of them.
Your first recurring email campaign is now ready to be sent! Click on the 'Save and run' button at the bottom of the form to activate it or save it as a draft and come back later.
